Dallas Alice

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Dallas Alice is a fictional character that has been referenced in Americana music by various artists. She has been directly portrayed as a prostitute, though other songs that mention her are not specific about her profession or the relationship she has with the storyteller in the song. However, there was a groupie named Dallas Alice.

Origins

There is no specific origin to Dallas Alice, and the name may merely be convenient alliteration.

Songs

WILLIN: The oldest song that specifically mentions Dallas Alice is Willin’ by Lowell George, written in 1968. In this song, told from the perspective of a truck driver, the lyrics mention:

And I was out on the road late at night
I'd seen my pretty Alice in every head light
Alice, Dallas Alice

Though not overtly presented as a prostitute, some people[who?] believe that this somewhat seedy truck driver might be referring to one of his favorite “lot lizards”, prostitutes who prowl truck stop parking lots looking for clients.

LET HIM ROLL: Guy Clark released Let Him Roll in 1975. In this song, the main character held onto unrequited love with a Dallas prostitute named Alice.

And 'ol One-Eyed John said her name was Alice
And she used to be a whore in Dallas

AUSTIN VIA DALLAS: Released in 2020, Guy Smith’s Austin via Dallas presents a much different Dallas Alice. In this song she appears to be a high-priced call girl who drives a “black Mercedes”.

She said “This one is on me
‘Cause even us pros have passions we have to feed.”

Other Songs

Some songs mention a Dallas Alice, though how fictional the characters are and what their trade may be is uncertain. These include Alice from Dallas by Foy Vance, Alice by Son Little and White Palace by Clay Walker.
