DamnN HUNT is a 2023 augmented reality (AR) mobile game, a 'treasure hunt', similar to the massive worldwide phenomenon that was Pokémon Go in 2016 for iOS and Android devices. It uses mobile devices with GPS to locate and capture animated sports players, team logos and coins, which appear as if they are in the player's real-world location. The game is free-to-play; it uses a freemium business model and supports in-app purchases for additional in-game items. The game was launched in March 2023 in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
DamnN HUNT was invented by Duncan Smith and is fully owned by DamnN International. DamnN International also owns trivia games QuizStar, risk and PI3CK, as well as online social media and social networking service myyaak and 'stock market' for sporting players and team sportStrade. There are more apps and websites to be released over the coming months and years.
Gameplay
Augmented reality gaming
The biggest difference between Pokémon Go and DamnN HUNT is that in Pokémon Go people collected creatures, whereas with DamnN HUNT people will be collecting players, teams and coins of different values that will go into a person's sportStrade 'player stockmarket' portfolio. People can then decide to keep the player or team that they have collected and watch it go up and down or sell it in the 'sportStrade Marketplace' with the money then going into their PayPal bank account. The user downloads the game from the App store or from Google Play onto their phone. Upon doing this successfully they will also have created a sportStrade account simultaneously. Once this is done the game is ready to play. The user will then be able to find the players, team logos, coins and $ symbols and collect any of them. These will show up on the user's 'collection page' so that the person can see what they have and how many they have collected.
As users move around their real-world surroundings, they will be able to see the players, team logos, $ symbols and coins appear in front of them. By pushing on that particular player, team logo, $ or coin, these will then be collected and go into the user's collection page.
AR mode uses the camera and gyroscope on the user's mobile device to display an image as though it were in the real world.
Although the game is free to play, it will in the future support in-app purchases, where users can purchase additional items. There is one in-app purchase that can be made where a user can buy 'extra boxes' so that they can find more players, team logos, $ and coins, up to a maximum of 21 rather than the standard 15. This feature will be available sometime in mid 2023.
Players, team logos and coins collection
This is where the fun starts. The user starts the hunt with 15 empty 'boxes' in their 'collection page'. Each time the user collects a player, team logo, $ or coin this will show up so they are able to see what or who they have collected.
Phone set up
Collection page
After registering, the user will see a page like the below but with no logos in it. As the user collects players, team logos, sportStrade coins and $ symbols these will all start to appear in the boxes on the collection page. When the user has filled all 15 boxes they will be able to purchase an additional box with an in-app purchase which costs $2.99AUD. A user can purchase up to 6 extra boxes that can be filled which will be available sometime in mid 2023.
Hunt map
By tapping on the blue icon button at the bottom of the phone, the user will be taken to the hunt location. The user will see their personal location and also pins that show the location of the players, team logos, sportStrade coins and $ symbols as 'purple pins'. All these pins look the same so that the user does not know where a particular logo or player is and must 'hunt' for the one or ones that they are after.
Play Now
The user taps on the 'Play Now' button and this is where the magic really happens. When the user thinks that they are close to a pin, they will be able to see on their screen how many logos, players etc are in the area and what distance they are from the closest one. When the user is within around 25m or so from a logo, player, coin or $ symbol this will appear on the user's screen.
Collecting players, team logos, sportStrade coins and $ symbols
Once a user has found a player, team logo, sportStrade coin or $ symbol and they want to collect it, they simply touch the phone screen and it will be collected and will appear in the user's collection page.
For an area the size of Ballarat with roughly 100,000 people there will be 2 hunts. On the Saturday there will be some 500 pins randomly dropped which will have a value of over $500,000 in total. This will be the same for Sunday as well.
The value of the players, team logos, sportStrade coins and $ symbols
A team logo will have 25 units. So for example if the user collected the LA Lakers and they had a 'current price' in sportStrade of $3.72 the value of collecting their logo would be $93.00 on the day of the hunt. These units would then go into the user's 'sportStrade portfolio'.
A player will have different number of units. This could range from 500 to 2,500. So for example if the user collected Lewis Hamilton and his price was say $3.80 in sportStrade and there was 2,000 units on him, he would be worth $7,600 based on the value in sportStrade on the day of the hunt.
A sportStrade coin which can be black, white, blue or yellow can have between 10 and 50 units and will be of a random player from any sport. So for example if the player was say Chelsea FC EPL player Mason Mount and his sportStrade price on the day of the hunt was $4.31 and he had 30 units for him the his coin would be worth $129.30 on the day of the hunt.
A $ symbol if found will be money that goes straight into your DamnN Bank for you to spend on anything within DamnN International. This could be on sportStrade players or teams, in QuizStar and on other apps that will be launched over the coming months.
sportStrade
sportStrade is where all the collected players and teams end up. Once the user has filled all their boxes or collected what they want and the hunt has finished then all the collected logos and players will appear in the user's 'sportStrade portfolio'. From here the user can hang on to what they have collected or put one or all the players and teams up for sale in the sportStrade marketplace. When they are sold the money that they are sold for will go into the user's PP Bank (PayPal Bank) and this money can be then used to buy money players and teams, play other games on the DamnN International platform or moved into the user's own PayPal account.
DamnN Bank, PP Bank and Kels
If the user collects any $ symbols this money will be sent straight to their DamnN Bank and can be used on any of the DamnN International platforms including sportStrade, QuizStar and others. Every game, service or platform in DamnN International has the same banking set up. A DamnN Bank where any money that is deposited in will go there and must be used and cannot be withdrawn. The PP Bank is where any money won or gained via a DamnN International platform can be withdrawn into the user's personal PayPal account. Kels are what users get when they open a DamnN International account, deposit money, win on QuizStar or other trivia games or get via myyaak.
Development
Pre-release
The concept for the game was conceived in late 2021 as a way to promote myyaak. At first it was going to be a way to collect 'myyaak' logos that were white, purple and gold with each having a different value. Smith then came up with the idea that it was a better way to promote sportStrade as he could design sports players kicking a ball, shooting a basket, driving a F1 car or hitting a ball, which he believed would be more exciting and appealing.
Along with IT engineer and project manager Paul Napper, Smith came up with the basic premise of the game and over the space of around 1 year of developing, building and testing, DamnN HUNT saw the very first hunt happen in the Northern Rivers area of NSW in Australia in March 2023.
Release
Hunt locations
The first hunt happened on the 11th and 12th of March 2023 in the Northern Rivers area of NSW in Australia.
Any location could be picked and the size of the town, city or area will decide the number of pins that are dropped. For example a city like the Gold Coast that has a population of around 700,000 people will get 7,000 pins dropped with a value of approximately $7 million. Somewhere like Hobart with a population of around 200,000 people will get 2,000 pins dropped with a value of approximately $2 million. Cities that are bigger than 1 million people will be broken down into suburbs and areas.
