Dan Fletcher
Dan Fletcher (born June 29, 1984) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He has recorded and toured with many bands including Cherem, First Blood[1] and Run Into the Sun. Since embarking on a solo career in 2016, he has released one solo album titled, Brooklyn Romantical. [2]
Biography
Dan Fletcher grew up in Provo, Utah and got his start in the punk rock scene that would spawn the bands The Used and Neon Trees.[3]
He now lives with his wife and two sons in the small town of Midway, Utah.
Career
Cherem
Fletcher's first full-time band, Cherem, gained acclaim in the political hardcore scene for its vegan-straightedge ethics and metallic hardcore style.[4] Fletcher wrote and played bass on the album, We Are The Revolution, which was released April 20, 2006.[5] The album was recorded by prolific producer/musician Andy Patterson (Eagle Twin, Cult Leader).[6] To promote the album, Cherem toured the United States extensively with acts including Ed Gein and Remembering Never.[7]
First Blood
In 2006, Dan Fletcher joined San Francisco metalcore band, First Blood. [8] Following the release of the album, Killafornia, First Blood toured extensively throughout America, Europe and Japan. This included a North American tour with Ignite and Comeback Kid[9], a European Tour with Agnostic Front[10], a tour of Japan with Second Arms[11], a North American tour with Sick of it All and Stretch Arm Strong[12] and a slot opening the Monster of Mayhem Tour for Hatebreed, Exodus, Napalm Death and Black Dahlia Murder. Following this non-stop year of touring, Fletcher amicably parted ways with the band.
City To City
In 2007, Fletcher returned to Salt Lake City where he started the band City to City with members of Cherem and Cool Your Jets.[13] City to City recorded two demos that were combined and released as the album, Vision, in 2009.[14] City to City disbanded when Fletcher moved to New York City in 2009.
Solo Music
While living in New York City, Fletcher began to write and record solo music. He played open mics, subway stations and park benches, returning to sounds that he grew up around – the early folk his father listened to and 70s post-punk that his mother loved.[15]
Fletcher returned to Utah in 2014 where he began writing and recording his first solo album, Brooklyn Romantical[16]. The album was recorded by Wes Johnson of Archive Recordings (Band of Annuals, Vincent Draper, Lorin Walker Madsen) [17]. Of the record, Slug Magazine wrote: "It’s clear that Fletcher crafted his first full-length album, Brooklyn Romantical, with some serious TLC. Brooklyn Romantical is not quite rock, folk or country. With a polished and obvious acoustic grounding, plus the occasional presence of soothing electric sounds, Fletcher is a quintessential Americana artist, finding balance and solace in writing and performing music."[18]
Run Into The Sun
Fletcher currently plays in the Salt Lake Hardcore band, Run Into The Sun.[19] The band features Matt Mascarenas (Daytrader[20], City Ghost), Chase Griffis (Nerve Clinic, City Ghost) and Drew Davenport (Danny The Skeleton Horse, Tamerlane). They released their first single, "Your Badge Is A Burning Cross," in 2016, an anti-police brutality anthem with all proceeds donated to Black Lives Matter[21]. This was followed by the single, "I Am Up To Me," which shed light on high suicide rates among LGBTQ+ with all proceeds donated to The Trevor Project[22].
Run Into The Sun's debut EP, The Spark, was released on November 10, 2016.[23] Of the record, Iditoteq wrote: "Salt Lake City based RUN INTO THE SUN are back with a full EP and even more visceral lyrical content that will make you think. “The Spark” continues to mirror the band’s relentlessly powerful and energetic, yet surprisingly accessible sonic aesthetic, and it is our pleasure to present it in its entirety."[24]
On January 3, 2017, Run Into The Sun released the single, Dear Father.[25]
Shine William Arrowmaker
On October 2nd, 2017, Fletcher released a song called "As The Oak Distills" under the moniker Shine William Arrowmaker.[26] The 8 minute, 29 second track was recorded by Scott Wiley at June Audio (Neon Trees, Fictionist) and features drummer Pat Campbell (The Lower Lights, Peter Breinholt), bassist Vincent Draper (Vincent Draper & The Culls, Hectic Hobo), guitarist Tate McCallum-Law (The Lionelle) and cellist Genevieve Smith (Wing & Claw).[27]
