Dan Lindfield (BM, MRCOphth, FRCOphth; GMC 6100334) is a British professor and consultant ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and glaucoma surgery. He is a clinician, educator, and researcher in southern England, holding hospital and academic positions.
Early life and education
Lindfield earned his Bachelor of Medicine (BM) degree with clinical distinction from the University of Southampton in 2004. He completed specialist ophthalmology training in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, and London, including a glaucoma surgical fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, in 2012–2013.[1]
Clinical and academic career
In 2013, Lindfield was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.[2] He practices privately at Farnham Eye Care [3] and Spire Clare Park Hospital in Surrey.[4]
In 2025, he was awarded the title of Honorary Visiting Professor of Ophthalmology by City, St George’s University of London.[5] He also serves as Head of School (ex, Training Programme Director) for Ophthalmology at Health Education England, overseeing training across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. [6]
Surgical expertise
Lindfield specializes in cataract surgery (including premium intraocular lenses), glaucoma interventions such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), trabeculectomy, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).[2]
Research and publications
Lindfield has authored over 49 peer-reviewed articles, with contributions ranging from novel glaucoma surgical techniques to studies on tablet-based home visual field testing.[7]
