Dan Nightingale (born 15th March, 1981) is a professional Stand up comedian from Penwortham, Preston, Lancashire in the United Kingdom.

Early Life

Nightingale was born and grew up in Penwortham in Lancashire where he attended St. Mary Magdalene's Catholic Primary School and later attended Hutton Grammar School where he attended Sixth Form until his mother passed away from Cancer and he left to work in a factory, where he realised he didn't want to work for the rest of his life in a job he disliked and he began to attend a different College to pursue further education.

Career

Nightingale is an infamous comedian within the UK stand-up circuit but due to his lack of appearances on Television, he never reached the hights of other comedians with the same levels of infamy within the circuit. He was most known for being the resident host at the Frog and Bucket comedy club in Manchester and the host of their Gong-Show known as 'Beat the Frog', until retirement, finalised by a testimonial event, dubbed 'The Last Dans' to commemorate his history with the club.

Nightingale hosts the comedy podcast 'Have a Word' with his co-host Adam Rowe, which began in January 2020 and was born from Nightingale's since defunct podcast 'Hack Radio' where he invited Rowe onto the podcast for an episode and liked their chemistry so much that he decided to ask Rowe if he wanted to create a podcast together. 'Have a Word' is considered 'one of the best things to happen to UK comedy' due to its' success completely separate from TV scrutiny and influence from professional writers and production companies, Nightingale and Rowe both take pride in having such an independently successful production built off of their own backs, Nightingale in particular who has been observed to become emotional when speaking of the success of the podcast on 'Lockdown Lock-In' episodes. As of August 2022, 'Have a Word' has amassed over 16,000 Patreon supporters who pay either £3, £5 or £10 a month for bonus content from the podcast.

Personal Life

Nightingale is a Watford FC fan, despite being from Preston as when he was in school, he and his friend both decided to stand out from the crowd by choosing a team that wasn't one of the teams chosen by anyone else in their school, the choice of Watford comes from Nightingale's friend who's father was from Watford and would drive them to games. Nightingale also has illustrated an interest in American Football and the NFL and has said on many occasions that "He bleeds Rugby League" and being "St. Helens through and through" despite instead of watching Rugby League whilst he was in Lloret De Mar, he and his friends decided to get 'potted' (Jazz Cabbage) instead.
