Daniel David Shafer (born July 15, 1959) is an American rock singer, songwriter, musician and voice-over artist. His work includes television advertisements. In 2016 he appeared on the NBC television show, The Voice when his blind audition performance of Marry Me (Train song) secured him a position on the team of Blake Shelton.

Career[edit]

His arrangements and background vocals can be heard on Heart Shaped World the debut album for Jessica Andrews, [1] the songs "Over My Shoulder" and "I've Got To Know" off the album Better Than A Biscuit,[2] John Berry (singer) Capitol Records, Artimus Pyle on the album Artimus Venomous, [3] and on the Emmanuel album with Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant. He also sang on the PBS Special "Lest We Forget" the song "Lucky Man" honoring Keith Emerson and Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 20016, and again the song "Sweet Home Alabama" honoring Ed King from the group Lynryd Skynyrd in 2018.

As a writer and producer,[4] he worked with the group Salt on Mercy Street Records. The album "Satisfied" was released in 2001. The single "Get Back" charted at #26 December 2001,[5] and finally peaked at #13. The single "Satisfied was released in the spring of 2002, [6] and peaked at #20. In 2008 Shafer created the Rock & Load Show, a live show featuring signed and unsigned groups. He then created The Rock & Load University.[7][8]

In 2016, Shafer appeared on The Voice (American season 11)[9]. His blind audition premiered, and aired, on September 20, 2016. His performance of the song "Marry Me" by the group Train turned the chair and earned him a position on the team of Blake Shelton.[10]. The single was released on Island / Republic / Universal Records September 2016. [11]

He continued on the show working with Bette Midler going to the battle rounds, which aired on October 10, 2016. He competed against Sundance Head performing the song "Feel Like Makin' Love" by the group Bad Company. The recording reached #4 on the iTunes charts in October 2016. Shafer is considered the oldest contestant to appear on the American version of the NBC television show.[12][13]

After his appearance, Dan has performed with Dolly Parton, Artimus Pyle (of the Group Lynyrd Skynyrd), Jon Wysocki (of the Group Staind), Carmine Appice, Vinnie Appice, and others.
