"Dandelion" is a song by American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande from Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, the reissue of her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine (2024). It was released through Republic Records on September 4, 2025, as the album's third single. On the same date, a 7-inch vinyl of the song was released, served with B-side track "Warm".[1] The song was written and produced by Grande, Max Martin, and Ilya Salmanzadeh.
Background
"Dandelion" is one of the new songs featured on Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, the deluxe edition of Grande's seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine. Released just over a year after the original album, the expanded release was accompanied by a short film titled Brighter Days Ahead, directed by Christian Breslauer. A shortened version of "Dandelion" and five other songs from Eternal Sunshine and its deluxe edition are played in the short film.[2] Dandelion was first released on March 28, 2025 as part of the deluxe album, but was then released exclusively as a 7-inch vinyl single on September 4, 2025.
“Dandelion” was named as a metaphor for granting wishes, as it references the old myth of blowing a dandelion and making a wish. The lyrics “I’ll be your dandelion” presents Ariana as a “wish,” granting her partner whatever is desired, similar to the fictional wish granted by a dandelion.[3]
On March 17, 2025, the song’s title and track number, along with those of the other tracks, were released on TikTok and Instagram by Grande.[4][5]
Immediately after its release, rumors began circulating about “Dandelion” being written for Grande’s current boyfriend, Ethan Slater, as its lyrics suggest themes about their private life.[6]
Composition
Incorporated with “jazzy” and trap elements, “Dandelion” is primarily a pop and R&B record that opens with smooth, alluring brass reminiscent of the passionate horns on Eternal Sunshine’s original closer, “Ordinary Things.” As the track goes on, trap beats are introduced. Its lyrics “I got what you need/I’m thinking you should plant this seed” explore themes of romance and desire as Grande “lures someone new into her garden of love,” with Grande using imagery of blooming and planting to convey renewal and attraction. Rolling Stone says.[7]
Commercial performance
Following its release as part of Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, "Dandelion" entered the Official Chart Company's Trending Top 20 at Number 3, alongside "Twilight Zone", which debuted at Number 1.[8]
Reception
Rolling Stone praised "Dandelion" for its blend of trap beats and jazz horns, highlighting it as one of the standout tracks from Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead. The magazine also included the song in its list of The Best Songs of 2025.[7] Writing for Billboard, Kyle Denis placed “Dandelion” last in a ranking of all the bonus songs on the deluxe album. Denis says while the song has nice, smooth horns in its intro, it turns quickly into a “fiery amalgamation” of bass, synths, and a trap beat that he said would make the track fit in on Thank U, Next, one of Grande’s earlier, more trap and R&B influenced albums. He also states that “Dandelion” is more of the ‘90s and ‘00s R&B sound than the rest of the new songs, making it seem out of place.[9]
