Dane Glen "Boeta" Merrick (born 9 May 1990) is a South African fixed income quantitative analyst, and former equities trader, commodities trader, and actor. He is perhaps best known for his role as himself in the 2010 Bollywood film Crook.[1]

Early life and background

Merrick grew up in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and was educated at Hilton College.[2] Following school, Merrick pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, ultimately graduating with a Master's in Mechanical Engineering (specialising in Computational Fluid Dynamics).

Career

During his time at university, Merrick got his breakthrough in acting, starring as himself in the 2010 Bollywood film Crook.[3] Following the success and popularity of the film, Merrick moved to Hyderabad, India, in 2014 to be "closer to his fan base" and pursue his interest in commodities trading. In 2015, Merrick announced his retirement from acting, choosing to focus his attention entirely on finance.

Personal life

Merrick currently splits his time between Sea Point and Newlands, and is an active member of the Cape Town social scene. Although raised in a staunch Catholic family, Merrick considers himself Jewish, attributing this to his "many years spent in Sea Point". Merrick is currently single, but is rumoured to not be short of suitresses. Merrick is a fan of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and has been seen at matches with Crook co-star Emraan Hashmi.
