Dani Reiss CM (born November 7, 1973) is a Canadian businessman. He is best known for his role as CEO of Canadian clothing company Canada Goose.

Background and early life

Reiss is the son of Malca (née Tick) and David Reiss.[1][2] His maternal grandfather is Samuel Tick, who in 1957 founded Canada Goose under the name Metro Sportswear.[1][2][3] When Reiss was in high school, he worked for the family business during the summer months.[4][5]

In 1997, after receiving a bachelor of arts degree in English literature and philosophy from the University of Toronto, Reiss joined Canada Goose's sales division.[4][6] The company changed its name in 2000 after Reiss suggested its name be switched from Snow Goose to Canada Goose.[6][7]

Career

Reiss succeeded his father as president and CEO of Canada Goose in 2001.[8] As CEO, he has been insistent that Canada Goose apparel should be produced domestically.[9][10] When Bain Capital bought a majority stake in the company in 2013, Reiss secured a guarantee from Bain that Canada Goose would continue to make its products in Canadian manufacturing plants.[10][11] During his tenure as CEO the company has opened manufacturing plants in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Montreal.[12][13][14]

In 2011, he was named Canada's Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.[15]

Reiss was appointed to the 2016 Order of Canada and the 2019 Order of Ontario, in part for helping build Canada Goose into a company that employs a sizable domestic workforce.[16][17][18]

Reiss is on the board of directors for Sinai Health.[19]

In 2019, Reiss was recognized as the Globe and Mail's Global Visionary of the Year.[18]

In 2022, Reiss was inducted into Canada's Marketing Hall of Legends by the American Marketing Association.[20]
