Daniel Afonso da Silva
Daniel Afonso da Silva (11 September 1945 – 14 September 1990), commonly known as Dani, was a Portuguese footballer who played as a midfielder. A product of Sporting Clube de Portugal's youth academy, he spent eight seasons with the club's first team, making 62 official appearances and winning three Primeira Divisão titles and one Taça de Portugal.

Daniel Afonso da Silva was born on 11 September 1945 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Club career
Da Silva developed through the youth ranks of Sporting CP before being promoted to the senior team. He made his official first-team debut on 1 November 1964 under coach Jean Luciano in a 3–1 league defeat away to Varzim SC. During his debut season, he made six official appearances.
In the 1965–66 season, Sporting won the Portuguese championship, with Da Silva emerging as one of the club's promising young midfielders. He made 30 official appearances and scored the only goal of his Sporting career on 28 November 1965 in a 2–1 victory over Vitória de Setúbal.
Although initially considered one of the club's brightest prospects, his playing time declined in subsequent seasons. He featured only once during the 1966–67 campaign, returned for 14 appearances the following season, and played twice in 1968–69. During Sporting's 1969–70 title-winning campaign, he appeared in four official matches.
After a loan spell with Sporting Farense, he returned for the 1971–72 season but made only three appearances before being loaned to União de Coimbra. He remained with Sporting for the 1973–74 season, when the club completed the domestic league and cup double. His final appearance came on 9 June 1974, when he entered as a substitute during extra time in Sporting's 2–1 victory over Benfica in the Taça de Portugal final.
Across eight seasons with Sporting's first team, Da Silva made 62 official appearances and scored one goal. During his time at the club, Sporting won three Portuguese league championships and one Portuguese Cup.
