Daniel Patrick Graewe (born December 11, 1978) is a German jurist. He is a professor of law and director of the Institute of Applied Business Law at Nordakademie University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany.
Early life[edit]
Graewe grew up in Unna, Germany and graduated from Ernst Barlach high school. After graduating with a double degree in law and political science from the University of Hamburg and the University of Frankfurt am Main, with a semester abroad in Lausanne, Switzerland,[1] he completed the legal clerkship with stages i.a. at the Hamburg Regional Court, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany and the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Other stages took him to the Federation of German Industries in Washington, D.C. and to the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer.[2] In the year 2009 he passed the grand state law exam. In the same year he was also admitted to the bar.[3] Subsequently, Graewe received his Ph.D. on a topic in the field of corporate governance from the University of Cologne (doctoral advisor was Barbara Dauner-Lieb).[4] He also holds a Master's degree (LL.M.) in Japanese Law with a research stay in Kyoto, Japan.
Career[edit]
After receiving his Ph.D., he worked for several years as an attorney at the wall street law firm White & Case[5] and international law firm CMS[6] in Hamburg, London and Munich. At the same time he completed the specialist lawyer course in tax law. In the year 2016 he accepted the call to a professorship for business law at Nordakademie University of Applied Sciences[7], where he is the head of the Master's program Business Law (LL.M.).[8] Graewe is also director of the Institute of Applied Business Law and Faculty Member of the Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances.[9] His research focuses on civil law, commercial and corporate law, including mergers & acquisitions, labor law and the law of non-profit organizations. Graewe is also responsible for one of the biggest M & A research databases in German-speaking countries. Graewe is a member of the Board of Diakonie Alten Eichen (a German health care conglomerate),[10] member of the Board of Trustees of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner society [11] and CEO of Nordakademie Foundation.
