Dan Solomon is an American producer, publisher, editor and host known for his work in the global fitness and bodybuilding industry.[1] He was co-executive producer of the motion picture BIGGER: The Joe Weider Story. Solomon also created Pro Bodybuilding Weekly in 2005, the first ever syndicated bodybuilding radio show,[2] before serving as a featured writer and editor of various magazines.[3] In 2015, Solomon created Digital Muscle, a fitness industry media hub.[4] He currently oversees the Mr. Olympia contest, a bodybuilding event held annually in Las Vegas.
Film production
In 2014, Solomon, producer Steve Lee Jones, and industry executive Eric Weider together developed the motion picture "BIGGER", the story of bodybuilding pioneer Joe Weider.[5] The film opened in theaters in October 2018 before being released on iTunes and on pay-per-view in early 2019. Solomon was credited as co-executive producer and also appeared in the film.[6]
Mr. Olympia
In 2018, Solomon was hired by American Media, Inc as vice president and to oversee the Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend, home to the Mr. Olympia contest. Solomon is currently the Chief Olympia Officer[7], and is focused on the "fan experience" for the 2019 Olympia competition.[8]
Bodybuilding industry
In 2008, Solomon was the recipient of the IFBB Lifetime Achievement Medal,[9] presented by the late Ben Weider.[10] Solomon received the award for his role in producing new media resulting in “the growth of the sport of bodybuilding around the world.” Solomon’s Pro Bodybuilding Weekly radio show aired for 13 years.[11]
Media host and commentator
For 15 years, beginning in 2002, Solomon served as a television and webcast host of several major fitness-themed productions, including Mr. Olympia, the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic and other global bodybuilding championships.[12][13][14] Solomon first garnered attention for interviews with those in bodybuilding, including Schwarzenegger.[15]
