Danish Student CubeSat Program
The Danish Student CubeSat Program (DISCO) is a Danish CubeSat initiative across four Danish universities, Aalborg University, Aarhus University, the IT University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark, as well as the House of Natural Science and the Danish Industry Foundation. The program currently plans to launch three separate CubeSats, DISCO-1, DISCO-2 and DISCO-3.[1]
All three satellites are in development, and the first satellite DISCO-1 is expected to be launched in early 2023 by Momentus Space, via their space tug Vigoride and a Falcon 9 rocket[2]. The DISCO program aims to further increase interest in STEM and space among high school students by building mobile ground stations for use in Danish high schools, to give the students the opportunity to learn about satellite communication[3]. Furthermore, the program intends to increase the practical knowledge of the satellite industry among the university students of the participating universities.
DISCO-1
DISCO-1 is made in collaboration between Aarhus University and Aalborg University and is scheduled for launch in early 2023. The objective of the satellite is to make experiments in high speed communication, and with help from the mobile ground stations, give Danish high schools experience in satellite communication. Additionally, DISCO-1 will provide services to the amateur radio community.[2]
DISCO-2
DISCO-2 is made in collaboration between Aarhus University and the IT University of Copenhagen and is scheduled for launch in 2023. The objective of the satellite is to monitor the arctic climate along the coast of Greenland and provide scientific data about dynamic 3D mapping of glaciers and coastlines for the Arctic Research Center.[4][5]
DISCO-3
DISCO-3 is a collaboration between the University of Southern Denmark and Aalborg University. The satellite is currently in the development phase.[2]
