Danny B. Stillman

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Danny B. Stillman (January 27, 1934 – May 7, 2019) was a physicist, nuclear weapons expert, and head of the intelligence division at Los Alamos.[1][2]

Stillman studied engineering physics at the University of Washington and, after joining Los Alamos, headed the Technical Intelligence Division for 13 years. He was awarded the Intelligence Community Seal Medallion for his work.

Stillman was loosely involved in the Wen Ho Lee espionage case because he possessed extensive knowledge of the Chinese nuclear weapons program. This knowledge was based on several visits to the weapons laboratories of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the United States between 1990 and 1999, in a scientific-hosting context.[3] During this period, many details and the latest developments from China were relatively unknown. As head of intelligence at Los Alamos, he was informed about many events.

He wanted to publish a book of over 500 pages titled "Inside China's Nuclear Weapons Program." However, the CIA prohibited him from doing so due to its classified content. He appealed this decision.[4]

Together with Thomas C. Reed, he published the book "The Nuclear Express: A Political History of the Bomb and Its Proliferation" in 2009.

Danny lived in White Rock, New Mexico.
