Danny Batten (born January 4, 1974) is a British martial arts coach, brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner and former professional mixed martial artist where he held the Cage Warriors featherweight title and the UZI light weight title[1] . His students include fighters such as Linton Vassell.

Background[edit]

Batten started Taekwondo at eighteen, subsequently receiving his black belt and becoming British ITF champion in 1997.[2] He then went on to Japanese submission wrestling, learning a mix of judo, catch wrestling and BJJ. He is a submission specialist and gained his brown belt in four years training under Zé Marcello.[3]

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Batten high level submission game was cemented as fact when he earned a second round submission against John Kavanagh who at the time was deemed 'unsumbmittable'.[4] Kavanagh expressed his thoughts on the match up in his book Win or Learn.[5]

BJJ black belt Augusto Frota failed to come out for the 4th round of their fight due to leg kick damage and exhaustion.

BJJ black belt Emmanuel Fernandez, nicknamed 'Pythagoras', whom Batten defeated with his own signature move (Triangle choke).

Batten submitted Number 1 WEC contender Damacio Page in 37 seconds via armbar.
