Dante Magdaluyo, Sr. (July 9, 1934 – 2019) was a Filipino businessman. He collaborated with Carlos Magdaluyo, a cousin, as Manager in privately-owned casinos in Pasay, Manila and Davao City cities during the early years of the Philippine gambling industry

Early life[edit]

Born on July 9, 1934 in Pasay City, Philippines, Magdaluyo was the eldest of 2 children of Sixto Flores Magdaluyo and Isabel Cleto. His ancestry traces back to the Aklanon people of Aklan, as does his surname Magdaluyo, which comes from Kalibo, Aklan.

Business Career[edit]

Dante, Sr. along with cousin Carlos and younger brother Arthur, teamed up with Nevada-native and Philippine casino entrepreneur Murray Hertz. Their group eventually introduced the world of casino operations to Korea, opening the first casino in the country in Incheon in the 1960s.[1]

Dante, Sr. then immigrated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1969 and was employed as a Dealer, then Pit Manager at the Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel, formerly known as Horseshoe Casino in Downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street. in 1972, Dante was employed as Pit Manager at the Dunes (hotel and casino) on the Las Vegas Strip. In 1978, when casino gambling was legalized in Atlantic City, Dante was employed as Casino Pit Manager at Caesars Atlantic City[2]

Personal Life[edit]

Dante, Jr. married Soledad Ballon aka. Sofia Moran in 1960, and have 3 children. He immigrated in the United States, and lived in Las Vegas, NV and Atlantic City, NJ from 1969 - 2010. Dante, Jr. with his wife, Soledad returned to the Philippines during retirement and lived in Nabua, Camarines Sur.

Death[edit]

Dante, Jr. died on February 24, 2019 at Santa Maria Josefa Foundation Hospital in Iriga City, Camarines Sur. He died of severe Anemia. He was 84 years old.
