Dargin women

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Modern Dargin women were influenced by socialism values, traditional Dargo values and modern values of both Western and Islamic civilization. Therefore there is a wide variety of different behavior of modern Dargin women.

In history[edit]

Historically until Akusha-Dargo[1] ceased its existence in the mid of 19th century Dargin women [2] had numerous rights and privileges unavailable to women not only in the east but in the west until late 20th century. [3] Dargin woman could:

  • 1) Buy, own and use weapon;
  • 2) Buy, own and manage property indepedently from men (husband, father);
  • 3) Ride a horse;
  • 4) Do business independently from men (husband, father);
  • 5) Wear cloth they wanted;
  • 6) Vote;
  • 7) Discuss any political or social issues;
  • 8) Take over any political office;
  • 9) Become social, military or political leader[4]

Dargin women were literate and trained to effectively use weapon for self-defense. They were also taught public rhetoric skills.

  • One of historical reasons for so many freedoms and liberties unknown to other women in the world in 19th and even 20th century was the fact that Dargin men were heavily engaged in caravan trade which required extensive travelling. Therefore women had to replace men in their activities for very long time.
  • Uniqueness of Dargin feminism was that wife's activity was supported by husband. Society in general favored more active and dynamic women.

Unique traditions[edit]

  • Some of Dargin traditions can seem quite unusual for people from the West and even Middle East. When Dargin village was attacked by gang of brigands the captured brigands were expected to be publicly executed by young girls of age 11-16.
  • This tradition was similiar to strange traditions of Ancient Sparta, but unlike Ancient Sparta young girls, not boys were engaged in such unusual activity.
