Daria Massey is an American actress who appeared in films and TV shows of the 1950s and 1960s, including Sabu and the Magic Ring, High School Caesar , The Islanders and The Ladies Man. Her roles include a number of Asian, Hispanic and Native American female characters.
Life and career
Daria Massey was born as Johnnie Kate Dicenzo on June 2, 1936 in Knoxville, Tennessee.[citation needed] Massey is Eurasian[1]: her mother was Irish and her father was Chinese. She was adopted as an infant by her maternal grandparents.[citation needed] She came to Hollywood at the age of six and made her debut in the Douglas Sirk drama Sleep, My Love.[2] During the early 1950s, Massey attended Hollywood Professional School.[3][not in citation given]
She began her career as a model and then started appearing in films and TV Shows from Golden Age of Hollywood in minor and supporting roles.[4][5] She played the lead role of Zumila[6] alongside actor Sabu in Sabu and the Magic Ring (1957). Massey also appeared in High School Caesar (1960) as Lomita Owens[7], The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima (1952)[8], The Iron Mistress (1952)[8] and The Ladies Man (1961) as Miss Tickey.[9][10][11] She also played in various TV shows, such as The Islanders,[12], in which she had the role of a "a luscious belly-wiggling Javanese"[13], Death Valley Days, The Stu Erwin Show, West Point, Wagon Train, Follow the Sun, McHale's Navy.[14]
Personal life
Massey was married to David N. Carr, an oil company executive[15] from 1956 until their divorce in 1958,[16] and then to stage manager David F. Joesting[17][18] from 1961 to 1962.[19] She never remarried since then and is still living in Los Angeles.[20][not in citation given]
