Daria Panfilova (Russian: Дарья Панфилова, born January 15, 1984) is a Russian modern artist, based in Moscow.

Life and work

Panfilova was born on January 15, 1984. In 2007 she graduated from the Saratov Art College named after Alexey Bogolyubov, with a degree in Exterior Design (Faculty of Design) and Saratov State University named after Nikolay Chernyshevsky, with a degree in Literary Studies (Faculty of Literary Studies and Journalism). In 2012, she studied at the British Higher School of Art and Design in Moscow, and in 2014–2016 — at the Academy of Arts of Barcelona.

The artwork of Panfilova has been greatly influenced by interaction with representatives of the National Geographical Society and the St. Petersburg Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum.

In January 2018, Moscow hosted the largest solo exhibition of Panfilova's work, "Polarity". The artist showed her best works for several years and highlighted the theme, devoted to the Arctic.

Since 2018, she joined the ranks of the best young artists of Russia — Young Top 100 (according to the analytical portal INART) and the List of the Best Contemporary Artists of Russia (according to ARTEEX portal).

Since 2007, Panfilova has participated in national and foreign exhibitions, such as Selection Art Show in Los Angeles — the exhibition of young Russian art.

Panfilova's paintings are located in private collections in Moscow, Paris, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Sydney.

Why the Arctic?

One of the main topics of Panfilova’s artwork is the Arctic. "The Arctic Region affected me emotionally for a long time, — says Panfilova. — But by 2018 it crystallized as a whole and pervasive theme. I plan to develop it further, and have firm plans already."

"Foremost, the Arctic for me is a metaphor for heroism, purity and forward-looking optimism. After graduating from Saratov University, I moved to St. Petersburg and lived near the Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum. In two years it has become one of my favorite places in the city. From that moment (and for ten years almost) I have been collecting books about the Arctic, reading scientific articles, studying climate change."
