Dariacore
Dariacore is a Hyperpop-Influenced Micro-genre of EDM, popularized by the music artist, Jane Remover (Real Name, Zeke[1], formerly known as dltzk; also known as leroy.). Jesse Taconelli, the founder of deadAir Records, explained that Dariacore is "electronic music that's been filtered through over a decade of the internet's love-hate relationship with big-stage EDM and dubstep." [1] The genre makes use of samples from Hyperpop, Digicore, and Jersey Club, among many other genres, as well as 2000s-2010s pop and hip-hop songs.
Dariacore reached its emergence in the early 2020s on Soundcloud. The genre was reportedly musically inspired by Vektroid's song production livestreams, her glitchy track, Sick & Panic, and SoundClown music, which was an internet remix fad in the early-mid 2010s that combined pop, rap, and video game themes.[1] The first addition of a track in this micro-genre was created and released by Leroy, named "Ricky Bobby", on December 1st, 2020.[2]
Since 2020, Dariacore has achieved something similar to a cult following among EDM and Glitch fans, creating new artists in the micro-genre, and attention by multiple news outlets, blogs, and review sites, spreading the range of the micro-genre further.[3][4][1][5][6]
History
Dariacore had its first legitimate release as a dedicated micro-genre with the introduction of Dariacore 1, the first album by Leroy, released on May 14, 2021. The album contained now popular tracks of the micro-genre such as "Ricky Bobby", as well as Breakcore and DnB inspired tracks such as "Parental Rift" and "Copyright Strike my Fucking Nuts".
Dariacore 2: Enter here, Hell to the Left, proceeded to release on September 8th, 2021.
In Mid-2022, Zeke explained that Dariacore 3... At least I think that's what it's called? would be his final mix as leroy[7], which proceeded to release on May 23, 2022.
Throughout the release of Dariacore 3 in 2022, multiple artists on Soundcloud caught wind, and then a proceeding interest in Dariacore. One of the most notable artists being saoirse dream, with songs like "when your pizza rolls + horse girl with a gun" following in the same rhythmic footsteps of Leroy, as well as newer tracks like the "undertoad+" which rides the line between what Dariacore is, and the styles that can be created within the micro-genre, instead, taking inspiration from house and garage music, instead of the hyperpop influenced mashup of samples that Leroy popularized.
Others that are notable are:
dashie, which prefers to stick to high bpm songs and heavily influenced hip-hop beats, sometimes with rap lyrics, such as "okay maybe not" and "amane + b2nny";
steej (known by the name of "gingus"), with songs such as "high school dropout: with a twist!", and "one big chill vibe...";
and lorey, a wisecrack towards leroy, with songs such as "bella forgot where she left her porch", and "drake make loev to a steak".
Terminology
The name of Dariacore reportedly relates to a 90s animated TV show by the name of "Daria", where the main character is an affectless teenage girl, and every cover art or thumbnail for each released song is a screenshot from that TV show. According to Zeke, the subgenre's name has been "a joke that's been going on for too long.[1]
