Dark Buddha Rising is an occult-themed psychedelic drone, sludge and doom metal group formed in Finland in 2007.[1] They are currently signed to Neurot Recordings and are an integral part of the Wastement collective.[2]

History

Their first release was cd-r disc, entitled I, released in 2007 and limited to only nine copies. During the following four years band released trio of albums that gained them lot of attention through out the world. During that time they were recognized in the marginal music scene and were invited to play at Roadburn Festival[3]

In 2013 they released their fourth album, which was their first and last on Svart Records. Dakhmandal was actually a triple 12" EP but due CD version being a standard double CD this is considered as their fourth album.[4] During 2013 groups line-up evolved a bit as the blood-spilling vocalist J. Niemi disappeared and guitarist S. Kuosmanen was replaced with J. Saarivuori on synths and V. Vatanen on guitars and vocals.[5] During this time they begun to be recognized out side the underground scene as they toured Europe with Neurosis[6] and were invited to play at Roskilde Festival, one of the biggest European open air festivals.[7]

In 2014 band was signed to Neurot Recordings and toured Europe with Mr. Peter Hayden.[8] Also a limited edition live recording was released on cassette of the 2012 Roadburn Festival show.

Their fifth album and first on Neurot Recordings, Inversum, was released in autumn 2015. Release was followed with few European rituals including their second appearance in Roadburn Festival which was described as:[9]

Their set was far more violent than their name may suggest, thanks to new-ish vocalist M. Neuman's habit of hurling his wiry frame across the stage and doubling over in seeming agony, with teeth bared and face hidden beneath a tabgle of hair. He clawed at the air, wrestling with the invisible waves of noise like a possessed conductor all the while holding sustained howls from beyond. He was electrifying to watch, and provided an ideal focal point as the rest of the band, heads bowed, cycled through an hour of trance-inducing ritual psychosis.
