Darwin (band)
Darwin (stylized as DarWin) is a multinational progressive rock band consisting of Simon Phillips (drums), Matt Bissonette (vocals, bass) and DarWin (guitar), whose identity has not been revealed.
The band released its first single, Escape the Maze, on November 28, 2018, followed by its debut album, Origin of Species, two days later. A month prior to the album’s release, a music video to Escape the Maze was published on YouTube.[1]
Origin of Species
Origin of Species was released digitally on November 30, 2018, and on CD on February 25, 2019.[2] It has been described as a multimedia project, rather than a conventional album,[3] and the band itself has described it as “an epic and intricate musical fantasy concept”.
The album has 17 tracks and is over 80 minutes long. It addresses climate change and the challenges mankind must face in the coming years.[4]
The album was recorded at Phillips’ Phantom Recordings in Sherman Oaks, California, with additional recording in various studios, including Abbey Road Studios, London.[5] It was produced by DarWin and Simon Phillips and features guest performances from various artists, including Jeff Babko (piano), Greg Howe (guitar), Dennis Hamm (keyboards), Ernst Tibbs (bass), Katisse Buckingham (flute, soprano sax) and Masala B (spoken word).[6][7]
