Datical is a computer software service company headquartered in Austin, TX. It markets a DevOps product for database release automation and deployment.

History

Datical was co-founded in 2013 by Pete Pickerill (now Head of Product Experience), Robert Reeves (now CTO),[1] and Daniel Nelson — all founders of Phurnace Software, which was acquired by BMC Software in 2010.[2]

Datical is built on top of Liquibase and is the primary maintainer of the open source project. Datical has added enhancements to Liquibase, including pipeline-based workflows, out-of-the-box integrations with all major application release automation solutions, change management simulator, and a rules engine.[3]

They have raised a total of $27M in funding over 8 rounds. Their latest funding was raised on February 28, 2019 from a Series C round.[4]

Patent

Datical has one patent issued on April 23, 2019 (Patent No. 10,268,709).[5] The patent covers a change management simulator. Prior to any deployment, Datical’s Change Management Simulator proactively determines the potential impact of database changes before they are made. The Change Management Simulator analyzes the pending changes, which are determined by comparing the target database to the changelog and creates an in-memory database model to simulate applying those changes to the in-memory model.

Recognition

  • Gartner Cool Vendor in IT Automation.[6]
  • Finalist for Best DevOps Commercial Solution from DevOps.com.[7]
  • DBTA 100 companies that matter most in data.[8]
