Dave Balter (born November 16, 1971) is an American technology entrepreneur, author and investor known as the CEO of BzzAgent, Smarterer and Flipside Crypto.[1][2]

Early life and education[edit]

Balter was born in Boston. He grew up in Weston Massachusetts and attended Weston High School and graduated in 1989. He later went to Skidmore College and graduated in 1993 with a BA in Psychology.

Career[edit]

In 2001, Balter founded BzzAgent, a social media marketing company which was acquired by Dunnhumby, a division of Tesco in 2011.[3][4][5] Balter sat on the Global Executive Team at dunnhumby from 2011-2014 where he led all M&A activity and launched dunnhumby Ventures.[6]

Balter served as the co-founder and CEO of Smarterer, a skills assessment company he founded in 2010.[7] Smarterer was acquired by Pluralsight in 2014.[7] He later became the Head of Transactions at Pluralsight, while also serving as a Board Observer.[7]

Balter is a former Venture Partner at Boston Seed Capital, and currently serves as a Venture Partner Emeritus for the Venture Fund.[8] He is an investor/advisor to various technology organizations.[9]

Balter is currently CEO of Flipside Crypto, a platform that provides business intelligence to blockchain organizations.[10][11] He sits on the Board of Directors of Broadlume. He is an Advisor at Berklee (Music) Online and is Vice Chairman of Boch Center for the Performing Arts.[12][13]
