Dave Benton (51) is an anchorman for the CBS affiliate WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois[1] where he has worked for the last nine years.[2]

Background[edit]

Benton grew up in Addison, Illinois, and graduated from Northern Illinois University.[2]

Health[edit]

On Thursday, September 11, Benton announced on-air that he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and that he has only months to live. His announcement went viral. He explained that the doctors told him that the cancer is back and that it's too big for surgery or radiation.[3] He was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in November 2013 after doctors found a tumor on the left side of his head. He underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy and completed radiation treatment in February 2014, but the cancer has since returned.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Benton is a born-again Christian. He is married to Teresa Benton.[2] He has two adult children.
