David Matthew Perlis (born December 13, 1978) is an American poet, songwriter, music video director and radio personality. He is best known as the creator and co-host of the radio show Night People on WFMU.

In 2005, Perlis and fellow UCLA dropout Danny Thorp formed Hexa in New York City. Hexa's self-titled album (2005) received heavy airplay on WNYU and WFMU.[1] Time Out NY described them as "a motley sextet of guys and gals...offering short bursts of goodtime pop & roll with playfully hormonal overtones." [2] They have toured with Despot and Ratatat. [3]

In 2008 Perlis created Night People, an overnight call-in radio program, featuring producer and co-host Andy Theodorou. It ran for over 250 episodes between 2008 and 2016 on Jersey City freeform station WFMU. The show was notable for and candid interviews with guests inlcuding Corey Feldman, E.G. Daily, Crispin Glover,  and Gary Troxel of The Fleetwoods.[4]

In 2016 Perlis and cult British songwriter Robert Storey composed and produced the French novelty act Croque Madame's self-titled debut album (2017, Emotional Response).[5] Perlis also directed music videos for the singles "Gars" and "Natation" from that release. The album received radio airplay in the US [6] and Europe, garnering strong reviews from publications such as The Wire. [7]

In 2019 his first volume of poetry My Work With Mammals was published by London's Snake Perch Press.[8]

Perlis has worked for The New York Public Library of Performing Arts [9] and the American Museum of Natural History.
