Dave Swift is an American photographer, writer, and magazine editor recognized for his work in the skateboarding industry.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Publishing career[edit]

In January 1989, Swift started working in the magazine industry as an assistant editor/staff writer at Transworld Skateboarding.[1] Within a couple months Swift asked The magazine’s founding Photo Editor/Staff Photographer J. Grant Brittain if he had a camera he could borrow to learn about photography.[1] Grant gave Swift guidance and critiques and, within four months, Swift had his first photo published in TransWorld Skateboarding.[1] The photo was of Steve Caballero doing a frontside boardslide on the vert ramp at Kennedy Warehouse in San Jose, CA.[1]

Swift worked for Transworld till 2003 as a Writer, Staff Senior Photographer, Videographer, Associate Editor, Managing Editor, Editor-In-Chief and managed all editorial Staff for Skateboarding.[1] After Transworld, Swift was cofounder and Editorial Director/Publisher at The Skateboard Mag, an international skate magazine he ran for ~ 14 years[8][2][9][10]

In September of 2014 The Skateboard Mag completed a publishing deal with The Berrics and continued until May 2017.[11]

Skateboarding career[edit]

Swift was a local at The Del Mar Skate Ranch from 1980-1987.[12] In 1984 Swift was approached by Schmitt Stix owner and founder, Paul Schmitt, to ride for the company as an amateur skateboarder. Swift continued until Schmitt Stix turned into New Deal Skateboards in 1990 at which time he became a sponsored amateur with Santa Cruz skateboards.[1] Swift was featured in Transworld Skateboarding Check Out section in the December 1988 issue and on the cover of Poweredge skateboard magazine, May 1988 issue.[13]
