Davi Vieira (born in Salvador, Bahia in 1968) is a Brazilian percussionist, vocalist, songwriter, dancer and capoerista. Davi Vieira is recognized for his spanning 5 octaves, powerful voice, charismatic stage presence, improvised rapping and innovative percussion.[1] He toured Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas with bands and dance companies. Since 1990 Davi Vieira has resided in the United States.[1]

Davi Vieira has toured, performed live and contributed to recordings of such artists as David Byrne, Sergio Mendes, Gilberto Gil, Carlos Santana, Carlinhos Brown, Forro in the Dark, Bebel Gilberto, Steve Earle, Talib Kweli, Sun Ra, Tony Mola/Bragadá and more.[2] Davi’s hands playing urban objects around the city of New York could be seen on Ivete Sangalo’s Madison Square Garden DVD (2011). His husky baritone is the voice of Armando, a character in animated movie “Rio” (2011 Blue Sky Studios/Fox Films) from the makers of the Ice Age films.

As a percussionist he was a member of the Off-Broadway show STOMP for ten years. [2]

Davi Vieira was a co-founder of Brazilian hip-hop group MD MCs which released a CD and music video "Você Me Deixou" with EMI records in Brazil.[2] Davi Vieira was a founding member of Ogans, a festive Brazilian percussion group that for many years packed NYC Brazilian club Sounds of Brazil.[1] Since 2003 he has been a member of the group Forro in the Dark.[3][4] His composition "Perro Loco" on Forro in the Dark album "Light a candle" was listed by Wired magazine among president Barack Obama’s top 10 Spotify favorites.[5] Davi Vieira and Forro in the Dark have maintained over 14 year residency in the legendary NYC East Village club Nublu.[1] Davi Vieira currently leads and fronts Davi Vieira's Band, the band that supported the music of his album “Ghetto Linha 8”.[1] His single "It’s Summertime" was released as a music video in 2015.
