David Benac

David Benac is an associate professor of history and a political and community organizer.[1] He is running in the August 2018 Democratic Primary to represent Michigan's 6th congressional district in the House of Congress.[2]

Benac was raised in Alpena, Michigan. He earned a B.A. in history from Michigan State University, a M.A. in public history from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, and a Ph.D. in history from University of Missouri. In 2013, he joined the history department at Western Michigan University and became the Public History Coordinator. Benac has also been elected to the Association Council of the American Association of University Professors, is a Commissioner on the Kalamazoo Historic Preservation Commission, and is a Co-chair on the Consultants Committee of the National Council on Public History.[3]

In May 2017, he announced his run for Michigan's 6th congressional district seat, which has been held by Fred Upton since 1986.[3]
