David Burke is a former Canadian politician, who served as the interim leader of the Prince Edward Island New Democratic Party in 1982 and 1983.[1]
He took over the leadership following the resignation of Douglas Murray;[2] a leadership convention was planned for fall 1982, but the issuance of writs for the 1982 provincial election forced the postponement of the convention until 1983.[3] He led the party in the election campaign, in which the party fielded just three candidates provincewide and garnered just 0.5 per cent of the popular vote.[2] He was the party's councilman candidate in 5th Queens, but did not win.
He was succeeded as party leader in 1983 by Jim Mayne.[4]
Burke subsequently ran as the federal New Democratic Party's candidate in Hillsborough in the 1984 federal election, but was not elected.[5]
