David Daher Turfe is a current Judge of Michigan's 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. He has served in this role since 2007.
Education and Career[edit]
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Turfe attended Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan. Thereafter, Turfe attended Henry Ford Community College and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wayne State University. Turfe then enrolled at Detroit College of Law and graduated with his Juris Doctorate. After law school, Turfe was employed as a solo practitioner and later practiced law with Maroun J. Hakim. During his 16 year career in practice, Turfe litigated many matters through trial, including matters before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court. He also practiced before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Civil Service[edit]
In 1998, Turfe was appointed to serve as the City of Dearborn Heights Zoning Board Commissioner. Turfe held this position until 2000, when he was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Dearborn Heights City Council.
State Judicial Service[edit]
In 2006, Turfe campaigned to fill a vacant judicial seat on Michigan's 20th District Court.[1] Turfe won this election, becoming one of the first Muslim American Judges in the history of the United States of America next to Judge Charlene Elder of the Wayne County Circuit Court. Turfe has held this position since 2006. [2]
Community Service[edit]
Turfe is involved in many community service initiatives and actively participates in many local charitable organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Dearborn, Dearborn Heights Goodfellows, Substance Abuse Family Education (SAFE), and many others. Turfe is an advisory board member of Zaman International, and is the Chairman of its annual Walk/Run Picnic. Turfe has also participated as a local youth basketball and baseball coach. In 2017, Turfe was elected into the Dearborn Sports Hall of Fame.
