David E. Sumner

David E. Sumner (born June 24, 1946) is an American author and professor emeritus of journalism at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, where he taught from 1990 to 2015.
Early life and education[edit]
He was born June 24, 1946, Bushnell, Florida, and grew up in Dade City, Florida, where his father was a rancher and citrus grower. His paternal ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Pasco County in the 1840s, and his great-grandfather, David O. Thrasher, was the first county judge and third superintendent of schools.[1]
He has a PhD in communication from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; a Master of Theology in church history from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee; a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC; and a Bachelor of Arts from Stetson University, DeLand, Florida.
Career[edit]
Since 2016, he has been a freelance writer for In Trust Magazine, published by the In Trust Center for Theological Schools in Wilmington, Delaware.[2] Prior to starting his teaching career in 1990, he was director of communications for the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio in Cincinnati from 1981-1986. His articles have appeared in dozens of newspapers, magazines, websites, and academic journals.[3]
