From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

David Kelso-Mitchell (born 1960) (also known as David Mitchell and David M. Mitchell) is a Welsh author, editor, publisher and musician who is best-known for his contributions to the modern Lovecraftian genre and for publishing work by authors like Alan Moore and Grant Morrison. A Serious Life, his study of the transgressive Manchester-based publishing house Savoy Books, won an International Horror Guild Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2005.[1]

Life and artistic interests[edit]

Mitchell was born in Swansea. His early interest in comics developed into a passion for a wide range of literature and art, including the writers H.P. Lovecraft, William S. Burroughs, J.G. Ballard, surrealists such as Andre Breton and Louis Aragon, and artists such as Harry Clarke. Mitchell also studied the magickal theories of Aleister Crowley, absorbing many significant insights and ideas. Simultaneously, he was listening to and learning from a wide variety of music, including Kraut rock, Throbbing Gristle and Psychick TV. He made many acquaintances and formed many friendships in British counter-culture, including with the comics-writers Alan Moore and Grant Morrison, the musician and social commentator Genesis P. Orridge, the transgressive writer and prankster Stewart Home, the musician Steve Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the Manchester publishers Savoy Books.

Oneiros Books[edit]

Having edited the successful Lovecraft-tribute The Starry Wisdom for Creation Books, Mitchell founded his own publishing imprint, Oneiros Books, naming it after the Greek word for "dream". Oneiros published books by Steve Severin, David Conway (formerly of My Bloody Valentine), John Coulthart and many others.

Paraphilia Magazine[edit]

Mitchell co-founded the arts-and-literature magazine Paraphilia with the American writer and editor Díre McCain, and served as an editor and contributor there until 2012.

Photographed by Lightning[edit]

Mitchell performed in and wrote music for the avant-garde band Photographed by Lightning. He played various instruments, recorded and produced some of their albums, and designed their album covers.
