David Lee
David Siu Kai Lee (born October 21, 1966) is a Chinese-American businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Ferrari collector.[1][2][3][4][5][6] He is the Founder of the CEO Club.[7]
Early Life and Education
Lee was born to Chui Ling Fung and Hing Wa Lee, a jade carver, in Hong Kong.[2] Out of fear of being enlisted by the communist guard, Hing Wa and his brother escaped mainland China's turmoil in the early 1960s.[8]
Lee attended Whittier Christian High School, where he was active in the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.[7] He subsequently attended the University of Southern California,[5] receiving a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis on Entrepreneur Studies from the Marshall School of Business.[9]
He attended the Ferrari driving school in Italy.[5]
Career
In 1992, Lee joined the family business, Hing Wa Lee (HWL) Gallery and renamed it Hing Wa Lee Jewelers.[10][9] Currently, Lee is the owner and Chairman of Hing Wa Lee Jewelers.[2][11][5][6]
He is the CEO and Chairman of Los Angeles-based The Hing Wa Lee Group.[2][3][7][12] Lee is the Lifetime Chairman of the CEO Club, an invite-only Chinese CEO organization for business people in their 40s and 50s.[7]
Lee owns Ferrari supercar collections, including 8 GTO, F40 (red), F40 (yellow), F50 (red), F50 (yellow), 250, 275, 288, Enzo (red), Enzo (yellow), LaFerrari Aperta, Monza 3.6 Eva, Ford GT Carbon Series, Pagani Huayra, SF90 Spyder, 1964 250 GT Lusso Competizione, 1967 330 GTS, 1971 Daytona Spyder, F12' DSKL' (David Siu Kai Kee) TDF,[4] 275 GTB 4 Cam, Rolls Royce Phantom, Ferrari Roma.[1] He was offered Michael Schumacher's F2002, the F1 car that Schumacher won the Championship in 2002. He also has models from Rolls-Royce, Pagani, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz.[6]
In August 2014, he was invited to display The Big Ferraris from his collection at the Pebble Beach Classic Car Weekend. Moreover, Lee paid a record $2.2 million at the Pebble Beach Gooding & Company auction for a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso.[13] He purchased and restored vintage Ferraris and showed them at Pebble Beach and other exclusive concourse events.[5]
Lee is the Chairman of the David SK and Katherine Lee endowment program for leadership development at Flintridge Preparatory School.[7] Flintridge Preparatory School's patio and lawn were named David S.K. Lee Family Plaza in June 2015.[14]
