David M. Dodson (born 1961) is a Wyoming-based, global entrepreneur, educator and philanthropist.[1] His family was from Larimer, Coloado.[2] He was an early participant in the creation and successful demonstration of search funds as a business model for entrepreneurial acquisition and growth.[3] He currently teaches entrepreneurship courses titled "Managing Growing Enterprises" and "Entrepreneurial Acquisition" at Stanford Graduate School of Business.[4]

Career[edit]

Dodson has been the Chief Executive Officer or Executive Chairman of five companies: Wind River Environmental,, Smith Alarm Systems, Paragon Systems, Worldbridge Broadband Services Inc., and ADAP Inc. ADAP, which did business in the Northeast U.S. with 112 stores, as Auto Palace, was acquired by Auto Zone in 1998.[5][6] He has been an active investor in more than fifty early stage companies. He has served as a board member for more than a dozen companies [7], including Asurion LLC, which has 16,000 employees and serves more than 300 million customers[8].

Philanthropy[edit]

Dodson’s philanthropic activities focus on issues of childhood health and education. He co-founded Project Healthy Children, a non-profit that uses micronutrient fortification to fight birth defects and childhood disease in developing countries[9]. Project Healthy Children estimates its programs reach nearly 25 million children and adults throughout the world.[10] Dodson also co-founded Sanku, which in collaboration with Stanford University and Project Healthy Children invented a gravimetric device that accurately fortifies wheat flour in small rural mills.[11]

2018 U.S. Senate campaign[edit]

Dodson announced that he would challenge senator John Barasso, running for the incumbent's seat as an independent.[12] He describes himself as a "Reagan Republican," and says if elected, he would caucus with Republicans. Dodson stated, "In December, John Barrasso passed the Teton County Tax Relief Bill, giving guys like me hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax relief, while giving people in the other 22 counties an average of seven hundred bucks – all with no plan whatsoever on how to protect Social Security and Medicare."[2]

Personal[edit]

With his first wife, Stephanie Weinstein, he had three daughters, now adults. Although the couple divorced, they continued to work together in their charitable pursuits.[13]
