DeLuca Preserve

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

DeLuca Preserve is a 27,000 acres (11,000 ha) protected area in Florida. It was donated by the DeLuca family in 2020.[1] Ducks Unlimited holds the property's conservation easement.[2]

It is part of an area of habitat for Florida grasshopper sparrows. Cattle and citrus are raised on the preserve property. It also includes flatwood forest, Florida scrub, and swamp.[3] Other wildlife on the property include Florida panther, gopher tortoise, and red-cockaded woodpecker. Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park and the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area are nearby.[4]

The Florida Wildflower Foundation planned an outing in the preserve for October 2023.[5]

The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) posted a video about the preserve on YouTube. Various research projects are being conducted on the property. Access to the preserve is by appointment.[1]
