Dean H. Huh is an Asian American independent writer, producer,[1] and media consultant who is a partner in Synergy Media
Partners,[2] based in Boston, Massachusetts.
Early life
Huh, who is of Korean and Swedish/Scottish descent, grew up in the Boston suburb of Brookline, Massachusetts and graduated from Brookline High School. He then attended Pepperdine University where he studied journalism, television, and film production, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and Business.[3]
Career
Huh started his career in film and television by working as an actor and becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild in 1986.
Huh’s first television producing assignment was for Cablevision Inc.‘s, now Altice, variety special called: Command Performance featuring comedian Steve Sweeney.[4] Then, in 1995, he teamed up with Harvard University for The Hasty Pudding Theater Awards, a television special for Showtime featuring Tom Hanks and Michelle Pfeiffer.[5][6][7]
As a screenwriter, Dean optioned his first screenplay called: 'Prenuptial', to actress and producer Jessica Rains (daughter of the actor Claude Rains) in 1990.[8] Dean’s writing skills won him the Best Family Film Screenplay for Looking For Leonardo, in 2013 from the International Family Film Festival.[9] Recently, he won a Best TV Pilot Script award for his 2020 teleplay: One More California, from the 1st Monthly Film Festival.[10] Dean has also written for the former Transpacific Magazine in Malibu, California.[11]
Debuting as a filmmaker, Huh produced the Latin-themed feature By The Sea.[12] This romantic “Dramedy“ that Huh also co-wrote earned 3 IMAGEN Awards nominations including Best Picture (Drama or Comedy).[13][14]
For two years (2015-2016), Huh and Synergymediapartners produced the HOLA AWARDS, television special featuring Latin Film and TV honorees Benicio Del Toro, Andy Garcia, Hector Elizondo and Dascha Polanco.[15]
Huh is an active member and fundraiser for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.[16] He also lectures on film for a variety of forums.[17][1]
