Deana Lykins (born 1972) is an American Democratic party politician who is a Candidate for Assembly in New Jersey's 24th Legislative District. Lykins also served on Governor Phil Murphy's transition team.

Early life[edit]

Lykins graduated from the University of Kentucky. She moved to Sussex County, New Jersey in 1998. She worked as a staffer for New Jersey Senate democrats in the early 2000s. She worked for an Insurance Company, and currently director of the Project Self Sufficiency Board.[1]

Campaign for Assembly[edit]

On February 6, 2019 the New Jersey Globe reported that the Sussex Democratic Committee chose Lykins of Green Township, New Jersey, and Dan Smith of Mount Olive, New Jersey, a former Municipal Court judge for Assembly in the 24th Legislative District.[2] On February 18, 2019 Lykins attended a rally against President Trump's national emergency declaration at the southern border.[3] Lykins has described herself as a moderate Democrat, such as saying she would vote "No" on legalizing marijuana.[4]

24th District[edit]

As of 2013, the 24th Legislative District covers 36 municipalities in Sussex, Morris and Warren counties in northwestern New Jersey, including: Allamuchy Township, Andover Borough, Andover Township, Belvidere, Blairstown, Branchville, Byram Township, Frankford Township, Franklin, Fredon Township, Frelinghuysen Township, Green, Hamburg, Hampton Township, Hardwick Township, Hardyston Township, Hopatcong, Hope Township, Independence Township, Knowlton Township, Lafayette Township, Liberty Township, Montague Township, Mount Olive Township, Newton, Ogdensburg, Oxford Township, Sandyston Township, Sparta Township, Stanhope, Stillwater Township, Sussex, Vernon Township, Walpack Township, Wantage Township and White Township.[5]

Each of the 40 districts in the New Jersey Legislature has one representative in the New Jersey Senate and two members in the New Jersey General Assembly.[6] The other representatives from the 13th District for the 2018-2019 Legislative Session are:[7][8]
