History
Origin
DebatWiki is a website that is free to access for any person who has an interest in Afrikaans debating. The page aims to provide resources and information to students, high school learners, or any interested parties who wish to learn more about debating, both in a practical and theoretical sense. The page contains various articles on the ancient history of debating and rhetoric, modern debating formats, and the theory behind debating.
Mission and content
The mission of DebatWiki is to create a network of passionate people who wish to promote dialogue, discussion, and solution-driven debates through Afrikaans as a language. This network is envisioned to contribute, add, develop, and maintain the wiki page for the benefit of all.
All debaters can learn from each other, and having a community of people trying to help each other to debate better is something that will help even the most experienced debaters.
What is debating?
Debating is a form of competitive argument in which two sides are pitted against each other on a topic; the two sides have to defend or attack a given proposition using logical argument and rebuttal. However, it would be wrong to think of debating as a strictly logical form of argument; debaters must also use their rhetoric to convince an audience.
