Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is an American politician from the state of Florida.
Mucarsel-Powell is from Ecuador. She immigrated to South Florida in 1996, when she was 14 years old.[1] She worked for Florida International University for fourteen years, becoming an associate dean.[2][3] Mucarsel-Powell volunteered for the presidential campaigns of John Kerry and Barack Obama. In 2016, she ran against Anitere Flores for the Florida State Senate. Flores defeated Mucarsel-Powell, 54% to 46%.[1]
In the 2018 elections, Mucarsel-Powell is running for the United States House of Representatives in Florida's 26th congressional district. She won the Democratic Party nomination.[4]
Mcarsel-Powell's father was shot and killed in Ecuador.[5] Her husband, Robert Powell, served as general counsel for Igor Kolomoisky.[6]
