Deborah Lupton
Deborah Lupton is an Australian sociologist and academic.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Deborah Anne Lupton was born on 30 September 1963. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Letters degrees from the Australian National University. She later obtained a Master of Public Health and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney.
Career[edit]
Lupton has held academic positions at several institutions. She began her career at Western Sydney University from February 1992 to December 1995. She then moved to Charles Sturt University - Bathurst Campus from February 1995 to September 2005. Following this, she worked at the University of Sydney from August 2011 to December 2013. From January 2014 to January 2019, she was a professor at the University of Canberra. Currently, she is affiliated with the University of New South Wales.
Lupton's academic work focuses on sociology and media studies. She is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (2017) and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (2024).
