Decentralized Pictures launched their app on May 20, 2022, at the Cannes Film Festival.[5] The app serves as a platform for filmmakers to receive financing and production support for their projects. Filmmakers must submit their projects using the app's native token, FILMCredits.[6] Proposals, including pitch videos, scripts, and treatments, are reviewed and approved through the consensus of the platform's community, which is comprised of creatives, film enthusiasts, and industry professionals.[7] They collectively decide which submissions receive financing and ongoing professional support.[3][2] Decentralized Pictures has partnered with renowned filmmaker Steven Soderbergh and The Gotham Film & Media Institute to offer unique financing awards and opportunities to emerging filmmakers with many more to come.[8][5][9] Decentralized Pictures’ nonprofit mission is to discover talent and curate content in the form of sharing resources with independent filmmakers with a focus on filmmakers who haven’t to date had enough of a voice.[8][5]
