Deep-Secure Limited[5] is a British company based in Malvern, Worcestershire. It provides network security guard products for assured secure information sharing.
History[edit]
Deep-Secure Limited was formed in December 2009 by a management buy-in of the Specialist Products Division of Clearswift. The buy-in was backed by venture capital firm YFM.[6] The YFM-managed Chandos Fund[7] and British Smaller Companies VCTs 1 and 2 all backed the deal, through which software entrepreneur Richard Beaton became chairman of Deep-Secure with Miles Clee as CEO. The new company set up offices in Reading UK.
In June 2010 Simon Wiseman joined Deep-Secure as head of development from QinetiQ’s cyber security division[8], later becoming CTO.
In September 2010 Deep-Secure relocated to Malvern, Worcestershire[9] in the UK's Cyber Valley.[10]
In September 2012, Robin King became CEO, followed by Dan Turner in April 2016.
Customers[edit]
Deep-Secure's products were traditionally used by defence customers[11][12][13][14], but are now used in other markets that face the same kinds of threat.
Products[edit]
When Deep-Secure was formed it acquired two products from ClearSwift - Bastion and DeepSecure.
- Bastion is an EAL4 evaluated guard platform, originally targeted at the Sun Trusted Solaris 8 operating system. It was later ported to Solaris 10 with Trusted Extensions. The platform exploits the mandatory access control features of the Solaris operating system to provide separate compartments for the different components of the guard.[15]
- DeepSecure is an EAL4 evaluated guard[16] for SMTP and X.400 Email that runs on the Bastion platform.
Since the acquisition, the Bastion and DeepSecure products were merged and their scope widened to cover Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP and HTTPS) for web browsing and web services. A data diode product, called Minerva, was developed to allow information to be checked before being passed in or out of an isolated system whilst protecting against attack from the opposite direction.
The company has since pioneered the use of Transformation as a way of stopping known and unknown malware. This technology is delivered as a cloud-native service and as physical appliances for on-premise use, including the use of a hardware logic device[17][18] for high assurance cross domain solutions.
Awards[edit]
