Deep South News, and its online website, deepsouthnews.com, is a weekly newspaper and online news source for Southern news. Founded by Carmel Lynch, the website is a well-respected source of Kaplan community journalism in Louisiana. Its news motto of "Real News, Real Deep, Real South" is a dedication to its founder, Mr. Lynch.[1]

Overview[edit]

Deep South News papers focuses on community news and local issues, while the website features localized sections devoted to arts and entertainment, food, lifestyles and experimental sports and is very popular in the local community and the Southern region of the United States. The print copy is very limited distribution and circulation is for Kaplan and its surrounding municipalities only. Occasionally copies can be found in north Louisiana grocery stores, a feature offered since Deep South's beginnings.

Struggle for success[edit]

Although limited in distribution in print, Deep South News is struggling to expand its audience via the web and reach more small southern towns. It strives to bring small-town Louisiana news to a broader audience and expand its grass-roots base to a distribution never envisioned by its founder.
