Deepak Sharan

Dr Deepak Sharan is a noted Indian orthopaedic surgeon who presently serves as the Medical Director of RECOUP Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Center ,Bangalore ,India. He is an alumnus of JIPMER,Pondicherry and did his residency in orthopedic surgery from there.He went on to do further research in orthopedic engineering from University of Wales,University of Dundee and Lulea University of Technology,Sweden. He is considered as a pioneer in the field of gait analysis and occupational ergonomics with over 500 scientific publications and conferance presentations. He is a well known name in India for developing his own assessment and treatment approach called the SHARAN.

Dr. Sharan has served as the chairperson and presenter for several scientific sessions on Ergonomics and RSI at the World Ergonomics Congress (China 2009, Brazil 2012, Australia 2015), ODAM (South Africa 2011, Denmark 2014), HEPS (Spain 2011, Taiwan 2014, France 2016), SEANES (Malaysia 2012, Indonesia 2016), Orthopaedic World Conference 2012 (Dubai), and PREMUS (France 2010, South Korea 2013, Canada 2016).

Hailed as a “cult figure in the world of RSI” by the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Sharan is the Medical Director of RECOUP, which has a hospital in Bengaluru and 19 clinics across India. RECOUP provides Ergonomics and Occupational Health Consultancy to over 70 major companies in India and UAE, including Oracle, Mercedes Benz, Texas Instruments, SAP, Yahoo, ABB and Honeywell, covering over 500,000 workers daily.

Dr. Sharan won the SICOT Research Academy Grant 2018 (the world’s highest research award in Orthopaedics), 2016 Silver Jubilee Oration of Indian Orthopaedic Association, 2012 Henri Bensahel Award (the world’s highest award for research in Paediatric Orthopaedics, awarded by SICOT (The International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology), and the National Disability Award for the year 2008 by the Govt. of India for developing a path breaking surgical procedure for Cerebral Palsy called SEMLARASS. He was felicitated in 2005 by the then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, for his indellible work in Cerebral Palsy.
