Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO) is a national association of elected city council members, mayors and various other municipal leaders. Over 40,000 municipal officials are represented by the organization, which has over 6,000 active members. It is a 527 not-for-profit political organization and a constituency group of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Its mission is to “Connect, Elect, and Empower Democratic Municipal Officials”.[1]

Democratic Municipal Officials was founded in the 1980s by Lottie Shackelford, Lynn Cutler, and Robert Farrell. It serves as the DNC association for mayors, council members, and other local elected officials that identify as Democrats. The association organizes through state chapters, and advocates for municipal policy issues. Democratic Municipal Officials participates in the National League of Cities, where it hosts its biannual leadership meetings. The current President of Democratic Municipal Officials is Warren, Michigan City Council Member Angela Rogensues. Its Executive Director is Barbara Moore.[2]
