Denise Hunter is an internationally published, bestselling American author of romance novels. She has written more than forty novels and has appeared on the Amazon[1], ECPA.[2], and Publishers Weekly[3] bestsellers lists. Three of her books have been adapted into Hallmark movies[4]: The Convenient Groom[5][6][7] , A December Bride[6][7][8] , and The Goodbye Bride[9] . She has appeared on the 700 Club[10] and received awards such as The Holt Medallion Award[11], The Carol Award[12], The Reader's Choice Award, and The Foreword Book of the Year Award[13]. Hunter writes small-town love stories peopled with layered characters who have real-life issues.[14][15]
Life and career[edit]
Early life[edit]
Hunter was born in 1968 in Middletown, Ohio. She attended Madison High School, where she says she incurred more than her share of library late fees. Following graduation, she attended Sinclair Community College, where she majored in graphic art for two years. In 1989 she married Kevin Hunter and subsequently moved to Indiana, where is she began attending IPFW, changing her major to secondary education.[10] But three years later, Hunter decided to leave college to stay home with her two boys. During this time, Hunter states that she began to dream of writing a novel, but because life as a young mother was busy, she put her dream on the back burner.[10]
Early career[edit]
In 1996, inspired by the death of her grandfather, Hunter began writing her first novel (Stranger’s Bride)[16]. It was published by Barbour Publishing in 1998, the same year she birthed her third son. She published four novels (historicals) and three novellas (contemporary) with Barbour. Hunter states that her early works were written while her children napped.[16][17]
Career[edit]
Hunter published three contemporary women’s fiction novels with Howard Publishing before moving to Thomas Nelson in 2006, where she has remained ever since.
In 2016 two of Hunter’s novels were adapted into Hallmark movies: The Convenient Groom[5][6][7] (staring Vanessa Marcil and David Sutcliffe) and A December Bride[6][7][8] (staring Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing.)
In 2019 Hunter’s novel The Goodbye Bride was adapted to film and aired as Christmas on My Mind[9] (starring Ashley Greene and Andrew Walker) on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel.
Personal[edit]
Hunter and her husband have raised their three boys and are currently enjoying an empty nest in northern Indiana.[4] Hunter is still busy writing novels, and her husband owns a home improvement company, which, she says, explains all her handyman heroes.[10]
