Dennis Maley is an American novelist, journalist and essayist. His debut novel, A Long Road Home, was released in July 2015 by Double Bridge Publishing.[1] The book is described as a coming of age story about a young aspiring musician who is reunited with her biological father following the death of her mother.[2]

Maley has written a twice-weekly op/ed column for The Bradenton Times since 2010. His column focuses on politics and economics. He also occasionally reviews local theater and music.[3]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Maley is a native of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania,[4] a rural area in the state's anthracite coal region. He attended Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania,[5] earning a degree in Government. While at Shippensburg, he was a three-time All-American and captain of the school's boxing team. He won two national silver medals and one bronze.[6]

Military and Boxing[edit]

After college, Maley was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, eventually attaining the rank of Captain.[7] He was a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, where he won several additional amateur titles, including the Golden Gloves.[8] His professional career was cut short after only four fights because of a career-ending shoulder injury.[9]
