On April 5th, 2020 I completed an interview with one of my favourite artists and much loved cousin, Denvis... Dennis Grotenhuis. During the interview he sent me a short biography and I wanted to share it with the world.

Denvis, also known as Denvis Wankalot, is the pseudonym (alias) of Dennis Grotenhuis (1972), a Dutch singer, guitarist and songwriter. He is the founder of the Eindhoven rock band The Spades.[1]

Denvis graduated in 2000 from the Dutch Film and Television Academy and has since worked as a freelance filmmaker for different broadcasters and media.

With his band The Spades, Denvis actively toured from 2002 to 2009 in the Netherlands and abroad. They performed at SXSW[2] in Austin Texas in 2003 and 2005, and in 2006 at CMJ[3], New York. In 2002 The Spades recorded “learning the hard way not to fuck with the Spades” for Suburban records[4]. In the USA this album was put out on Gokart records in 2003. The Spades recorded in Seattle with Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney) and in Detroit with Jim Diamond (the Dirtbombs, the White Stripes).

In 2012 Denvis started a new band called D Deadly. The album “ Everyone gets the song they deserve, by D Deadly came out in oct. 2013. The album was recorded by Roel Blommers in collaboration with Jon Auer (the Posies, Big Star).

From 2000 and on Denvis was on Dutch television as co-presenter of The National Science quiz”, He performed on Parade and Lowlands. He put out several theater shows and in 2013 Denvis created a rock opera created along with 200 students of the Summa college called ;”The Eindhoven Rockcity Rockopera”. Denvis also acts in TV series and feature movies.

Denvis is married to Maaike van Zijl and has a son named Lou (2007).
