Denys Karlov (born 3 August 1984, in Simferopol, Crimea of the USSR, Soviet Union) is a Ukrainian conductor.
Biography
Karlov was born on August 3 in Simferopol in the former Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, into a family of intellectuals. From 1992 to 1999 he studied violin, flute and composition at the Music School No.1, and in 2003 graduated from the Tchaikovsky Music College in Simferopol, in the classes of Dr. A. Negoda (violin) and Dr. L. Khitriak (composition). From 2003 to 2009 he studied violin at the National Music Academy of Ukraine (named after P.I. Tchaikovsky; formerly the Kiev Conservatory) with A. Gorokhov's favourite former pupil—lecturer N. Sivachenko.
Karlov also trained in violin at the Moscow State Conservatory (named after P.I. Tchaikovsky) with Prof. M.A. Gostdiner, Honoured Artist of Russia, pupil of D.Oistrah.
At the same time he also studied voice with Prof. G. Sukhorukova, Honoured Artist of the USSR.
Since 2009 Karlov has been both a post-graduate student and assistant professor to Prof. I. Andrievskiy (Violin Department, Honoured Artist of Ukraine).
He studied at the Opera and Symphony Conducting Faculty under the direction of R. Kofman, Professor and National Artist of Ukraine and V. Gnedash, Professor and National Artist of the USSR at the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I. Tchaikovsky and at Saint Petersburg Conservatory named after N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov (Saint Petersburg, Russia) in class of V. Altshuler, Professor and Honoured Artist of Russia.
Awards and titles
During his years of study Karlov has become a laureate at many different competitions and festivals, notably the Republic competition «Young Virtuoso» (1996–98), 1st prize at the «Young Composer» competition (1997–99), and 2nd prize at the All-Ukrainian Lviv String competition in 2004. He has also taken part in the German Festival of Chamber Music (Ukraine, Germany, 2004–06), the International Charity Program «New Names» (2005–06), and «Art of the XXI Century» in 2008, International Competition of E. Stankovich, Cadaques International Conducting Competition (Spain 2013).
Professional practice and master-classes
He has taken part in master classes with such masters of world culture as: G.Rozhdestvensky, R. Kofman, Y. Simonov, K.Karabits, S. Vailer, and others.
Performed with Moscow Philharmonic Academic orchestra (Russia), Cadaques Orchestra (Spain), Camerata Armonia (Germany), Kiev Symphony Orchestra (Ukraine) and others.
Now, Music director of Macau theatre, (China)
